hours, ensuring lasting brightness. Improved speckle suppression reduces noise and bright spots for a
smoother, immersive viewing experience.

It not only supports a wider range of Dolby VisionTM content but also handles the
image well, providing easier access to cinematic viewing.

Boosted Brightness for Daily Needs
Theater Premium boosts brightness to 2200 ISO lumens while maintaining high contrast and color accuracy.
This means you can enjoy family watching effortlessly, day or night.

Quick start Accurate Colors
Theater Premium maintains its 107% BT.2020 wide color gamut coverage, but with more precise
calibration, it now offers stunning color fidelity straight out of the box, meaning much less tedious
adjustments, just more vivid, real images from the moment you power on.

Maximize your Space, Minimize the distance
Positioning a laser TV and enjoying a super large screen is closely tied to its throw ratio, Theater
Premium’s throw ratio has been reduced to 0.21:l, outpacing the 0.23:1 mainstream in the market. This
allows you to place the projector up to14% closer to the wall while still projecting a massive 150″ screen.
Plus, the image height is reduced by 44%, giving you more flexibility with your setup, whether it’s a
shallow TV stand or a tight ceiling space.

I have had a few Epson's and Bomaker projectors and this one beats them all, clear and bright picture with Triple Laser and incredible color? check, great sound? check, easy to use and looks good on the table? check,
incredible 3D? check
With Dolby Vision and Sound and with 25,000 hours of laser life this is surely the best projector in the market and I would recommend Formovie Theater to anyone looking for a great picture and a good price,
I was attracted by this product when visited a friend, the colors were much richer than the other projectors I've seen, even when the projecting area went up to 150 inches, so I placed an order right away.
The installation was very easy, and the picture quality and black level were also excellent. Movies in Dolby Vision also looks stunning, which is very rich in details, so it was also popular by my family members. I really like it!
Awesome product, picture is amazing, easy to setup. I absolutely love this projector, dynamic colors and great sound even with it being connected to my AVR. Definitely recommend
I was iniatially debating on LG Flagship projector vs Formovie. I decided to go with LG and used it for sometime. Though LG brand is reliable brand but the specs are limited for the price. Then i bought Formovie and Formovie Matt black screen. Boom it look and work so good. We enoughed being part of Formovie family. and never switch back
To tell you a bit about myself. My household makes less than 100k per year but we do have a bit extra to throw around at the end of the year. Which means we typically get to pick out something a little "boogie". Since our house hold cannot do that kind of shopping every day. The "boogie" products we buy have to last or that years "fun item" would be a waste.
Nothing is harder than spending this much money on a single item, but Formovie's customer support showed me its safe to purchase their products.
I had a one-off issue out of the box. Their customer support was able to reach out in the middle of the night to assist me with the fix, and had even offered if I was not able to fix the issue they would over night me a new projector.
That type of customer support means more than any single metric of resolution or lumins.
10/10 for their support.
...
On a side note the projector is also top tier 4k resolution, I play fast pace games like Apex legends and dark and gritty games like diablo 4. And this projector handles them like a champ
Play On par with my Samsung Q90 but with 120 inch screen instead of 55.
10/10 for the picture and processing power
Over all very happy and I feel safe in saying, even it's a big purchase like it was for my home. It's worth it knowing they stand by their product
Love it so much!
Fantastic projector. Plenty bright for viewing day and night. Small amount of tweaking has colors right on. Dead silent. Have a full-on
sound system, so can’t comment on internal speakers.
The Formovie Theater replaced a JVC RS2000 and the entire family considers it a definite upgrade. Auditioned an LG 915, and while it produced a fine picture it was annoyingly loud.
Highly recommend the Formovie !!!!
It helps that it can be installed very next to a wall and that you need to be far away to have a great image.
Talking about image quality, it’s great!
The brightness and color quality are impressive, though some adjustment might be needed on brighter days.
I appreciate the color adjustment options, particularly useful for projecting onto non-white surfaces (as my wall is light green).
The built-in speakers are decent, but I preferre using a sound bar for better audio. It operates quietly, which is a plus.
However I’m not a big fan of the fire stick.
I usually use Google Chrome or Android platforms to stream from Plex, Netflix or Amazon for example.
Got my projector delivered today and I'm already loving it. I don't have a screen yet, projecting it on my wall yet the picture quality is just amazing, the built in speakers are super as well for my small room of 13*13 feet. Great value for the money. No hassle of ceiling mounting , running wires etc.. the setup was a breeze. The included fire stick had trouble initially but eventually started working. I have been researching for a home projector extensively and shortlisted Formovie and BENQ HT4550 for my budget and eventually settled on Formovie. I'm sure I made the right decision. If you are looking for a home theater projector in the sub 3k rage, this is it, you cannot go wrong with Formovie . Will leave another review after extensive use.
The picture quality is amazing, the in built speaker sound quality and performance is top notch.
The after sales customer support I received was top notch. Highly recommended
Great for gaming or movies
Large windows should be shaded when it is bright outside
Formovie codes are not available for other remote controls (doesn’t work with Verizon or Firestick remotes for volume)
Sound is good However considering external speakers
Love this projector 😃 I had an old long throw that died. I did a lot of research on the short throw then I found this and bought it and I am more then happy with all of it. Very quiet, as bright as my tv, sounds great and the price is great. I would recommend for anyone.
For years, I have told myself to not buy (anymore of) the bleeding edge technology gadgets. The Formovie Theater falls into the bleeding edge category, but I still purchased one anyway. I did this after checking a bunch of YouTube reviews of the Formovie Theater series. Generally, the reviews left me a sense of lacking (as with other projector reviews). Pays your money, takes your chances.
Upon powering up the Formovie Theater, my initial reaction was abruptly favorable. The projected video on a cream colored wall was very good. I recently added a 100 inch ALR screen which made the picture even better.
Accuracy, focus, color aberrations, contrasts are wonderful. Fonts were remarkable. Color rendition is outstanding (either from streaming or from a Panasonic Blu Ray player). Of course, a darken the room helps.
Out of the box, the internal speakers were dreadful sounding. Finding the equalization and tone controls on the remote mostly solved the situation (adjusting to boost the high frequencies). Normally, I use the optical digital audio output to my HiFi system so these adjustments are not relevant.
There are 3 HDMI ports available. One is sort of dedicated to a streaming stick which can be hidden in a recessed area in the back of the unit. A cover is provided to hide the stick and local wires. A Firestick seems to work fine, Roku needs to have its WiFi long range wire extended. It would have been nice if Formovie Theater provided some holes thru the cover for wire access. There are 2 USB ports, however I have not used or tested them. There is also a video component input. I do miss not having an over the air TV tuner.
The HDMI ports all work fine, both with streaming and Blu Ray players. Just as you should expect from modern HDMI systems.
The video component input presented to me an opportunity for a time warp to the past. My Super Beta HiFi worked great as a video source. Picture was good. Sound was good too. However the 4:3 aspect ratio was not preserved (stretched to 16:9). Naturally the old 350 line resolution was not improved. (Note: one can buy elsewhere a converter box that preserves the 4:3.)
Most of my viewing has been streaming HD content, no problems, good job here. I had some difficulties with UHD 4K. Either or both the Panasonic DP-UB820 Blu Ray player and the Formovie Theater doesn’t like something. I ended up switching the Formovie Theater inputs while restarting the disc in the player. Problem sometimes occurred just as the user selects “Play” on the disc’s intro screen. Otherwise the UHD display looks fine. I haven’t tried out any of the Dolby options.
3D worked great (using Formovie Theater glasses). But the 3D requires a manual selection on the Formovie Theater. The 3D display initially starts up with a double image, one on top of the other until the Formovie Theater gets into it true 3D mode. The main issue for me is that the Formovie Theater automatically exits the 3D mode whereas manual intervention is required to start the 3D mode. A typical 3D disc jumps between 2D and 3D during the intro phase of the disc. (My 12 year old Sharp LCD TV automatically detects 3D and activates same.) 3D performance is quite good, A darken room helps the experience.
The things listed above are what can be seen as the pluses. Only one issue needs to be stated. The Formovie Theater has a variable speed cooling fan. Things are quiet at first. Usually as the video proceeds, the fan speeds up (noticeable fan noise is still acceptable). After an hour and half of 4K UHD, the fan seems loud.
All in all, if you able to spend the large amount of money, the Formovie Theater is a buy. Just don’t forget that you can but a couple of 75 inch high end large flat screen TVs for the same amount of money or less than the Formovie Theater.
Very happy with the Formovie Theater UST projector. Setup in a living room with light control blinds on the windows, projecting onto a vivid white painted wall. I purchased a Fresnel 120" fixed screen, but not installed yet, waiting for a ceiling mount bracket.
The Projector is very bright, plenty for my room with vivid colors and smooth motion.
The included Firetick 2K max works very well with all the Apps that I need.
There are two remotes included, one Firestick and one Formovie projector. After setting up and software update, either remote can be used for full control.
I am updating from a Panasonic 75" 4K & 3D TV, and I am NOT disappointed, a huge improvement in 3D movie presentation, very immersive.
I would recommend this projector for any living room setup with some light control.
Even better in a darkened room.
I'm not going to pretend I know more than channels like Geek Street and The Hook Up but this is the most impressive projector I've ever seen. It also happens to be the largest one I've used. Very beautiful design and incredibly built with tons of venting for heat dissipation. Tons of inputs like an actual TV. There's 3 HDMI ports, one of which is eARC, 2 USBs, an AUX port, optical S/PDIF and a LAN port.
There's an intuitive setup the moment you plug it in that guides you on pairing the remote, configuring language, connecting to your wifi, and selecting the projected surface (wall or screen). It also supports Alexa for voice control. The projector's internal interface/UI seem well laid out and snappy. It looks a bit like Android TV. Most of the popular apps are there like Netflix, Youtube, Prime Video and Disney+. Settings are also easily accessible within the user friendly menus.
In use, I could barely hear the fans running especially once you have any content going. Colors, based on limited testing, on a wall in pitch black seem really good. The picture is quite bright and I imagine it can only get better with a proper screen. I also noticed that there was zero motion blur, which was my #1 complaint in movie theaters. I guess support for 4k 120 really helps here. Didn't try it with gaming but I've heard that it's quite good on the latency front. Its speaker output is also surprisingly decent. Very loud and clear. Better than my LG for sure. Lastly, I really like the backlit remote which lights up the moment it's picked up. Not sure why others aren't doing this.
At the end of the day, this is a fantastic projector if you've invested in an environment around it. Maybe that will be me in a couple of years.
Projector delivers spectacular picture right out of the box. Would recommend the 100" - 120" cinematic ALR screen for the best picture quality especially if you have possible lighting concerns (overhead lights, many windows, etc.). Excessive room lighting would require going up to an projector with greater lumens. Since my 7.2.2 theater is located in the basement (3 small windows), it is plenty bright enough.
There's plenty of G rated content out there for the kids.
Technical Support is very helpful with set-up and troubleshooting any problems you might encounter. They are patient and stay with you until the issue is resolved.
One setting I’ve had to use constantly is the “Manual correction” setting to adjust the image on my screen due to the projector screen misaligning from time to time. It has 8 points of adjustment which work decently, but can leave gaps in between the points.
I also found that the Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation or “MEMC” mode was better turned off during TV and movies. These modes are used to inject A.I. generated frames, which causes the images to look way more fluid than they should, to the point where it is uncanny. It looks at lot better just having it turned off, and I haven’t experienced any problems with my image quality without it.
Movies and TV can be a bit too loud indoors by default and can have too much bass which makes it hard to hear actors when the “Sound Mode” is set to “Standard”. I’ve corrected it by switching to “Movie” mode which is perfect for TV and movies.
I would definitely recommend this projector, paired with a good screen and a dark enough room, for those that want the movie or stadium experience without having to leave their home.
Dolby Vision, 4K, brightest and sharpest image and 3D is bonus.
If it’s paired with Formovie Theater ALR 120 inch screen then you have 120 inch 4K TV. Very easy to setup and manage. Keystone settings could have been improved but that’s one time setup. Highly recommend this UST if you are looking for the best.
This is the best image (brightness, resolution, HDR) and overall feature set (HDR, Atmos, etc.) I've seen regardless of price.
It's also very quiet; thinking about buying a second one...
Excellent customer service, help me with all the setting up steps,
Above of anybother Customer Service Experience,
Fully recommend this products and how they help to build trist in their brand
After using it for a few weeks, I can confidently say this projector lives up to the hype. What amazes me most is that you can get a screen size twice as large as a typical 4K TV, all at a fraction of the price. It's still hard to believe something this impressive is so affordable, but it's real, and it’s amazing. Formovie Theater has truly delivered an experience that feels almost too good to be true. I’m so impressed that I’m already eyeing their surround system for when it’s available. If it’s anything like the 2500 projector, I know I won’t be disappointed.
If you’re on the fence about Formovie like I was, don’t be. This brand knows how to wow, and the Formovie projector is worth every penny.
Super bright
Very clear and sharp image
Good software interface
The clarity of the colors and the image is amazing. Love this projector. Great customer service even right at the moment you open the box and register the equipment. THANKS Formovie Theater!!!
I use this projector for my 150 inch screen. It sits about 20 inches from the wall and about 9 inches off the ground. Easy to use, set up takes a little time and practice to get it right. Great product!
I’m usually not the type to write a product review, but I can say definitely since having this Formovie UST projector for the past one year that it has continued to be outstanding and impress me daily. Though expensive , but it’s worth every penny
The picture quality is amazing, the in built speaker sound quality and performance is top notch.
The after sales customer support I received was top notch. Highly recommended
The picture is so clear! We are very happy with this purchase. Purchased with the Formovie Theater 120" screen.
I love it !!!!!!!
I just have not it figured out how to add apps to it yet but it’s great!
The quality of the image is great. It has bright and clear quality, absolutely beautiful.
It also includes 2 high quality 3D glasses and a flash drive with some sample videos pre installed to test everything out.
Highly recommend this over a TV, especially for gaming and watching movies. The sound quality, even on the base unit itself and not through a surround sound system is still better than my television.
For me, I’m projecting directly onto a white wall and can only imagine how much nicer it would look on a screen designed for short throw protection (next on my shopping list)
If you are serious about your viewing, gaming and sports entertainment and don’t mind forking out between $4000-$6000 (depending if on sale or not) then give this bad boy a go. You won’t be disappointed!
- One stop shopping, comes with streaming stick, and has built in speakers
- Laser. Lasers offer some of the brightest images available. On the default brightness it actually strained my eyes on some scenes, it’s that bright. And they last a very long time, which is good, because they cost too much to replace.
- Good black levels for a projector, but still not as good as much cheaper OLED TVs. It wasn’t as good on dark scenes as I had hoped. So for example, people wandering through a cave with torches. Overall the scene was quite dark and I struggled to see details. The torches should have been bright given the HDR10 support (for the init and in the feed) but it wasn’t.
- Comes with a 4K Fire Stick. I’ve been using one for years. I think it’s great. But that is a separate review.
- Supports 3D. But sadly the support for 3D media nowadays is terrible. For example Netflix only has a few movies and even then it’s only available in the USA.
- Auto off to prevent you from blinding yourself if you are too close to the lens.
- Built in WiFi
- Reasonable amount of inputs
My first impression was simply how huge this projector is. It's fully 24" wide, 14" deep, and 6" tall, which I hadn't realized from the pictures of it. Make sure you have room! Being an ultra short throw device, the unit will be placed quite close to the wall (typically about 10 inches, depending).
*The brightness and colour quality is great, although on a bright day you might have to draw some blinds, as I did.
*It comes with its own built-in speakers, which are decent, although they do give you an optical port so you can connect your sound bar, too.
*The unit runs very quietly.
*There's a full range of colour adjustment options, which is particularly helpful if you're projecting on anything other than a white surface. The adjustments would all be manual, but with some work you could find the optimal settings for your situation.
*Although it's not promoted, connecting the device to my wired home network *did* allow me to play 4K movies from my network attached storage device. In fact, it handled a very current video codec format and streamed perfectly.
*A safety feature is included to stop projecting if the unit notices that you're too close to the laser paths.
Having tried out my Formovie Theater for almost a week, I was impressed with its build quality and how bright it can get. Set up is way less laborious than I expected, and it works perfectly well in my living room even in the morning when the curtains are left open. At least for me I can't discern any "rainbow effect" when watching soccer and action movies. And those Dolby speakers are LOUD. I know this machine has 3D function for certain blue-rays but I haven't tried it yet. My next step is to get one of their foldable ALR screens. All in all, its a great piece of technology. 10/10.
I realize this kind of technology comes at a premium, but personally, it doesn’t offer quite enough to justify the higher price. I imagine the most expensive model (the $7000 version) might deliver the quality I was hoping for, but that price is way out of my range! Overall, this is a good 4K ultra-short-throw laser projector, though there are more affordable options (especially non laser projectors) with somewhat similar picture quality on the market.
This projector is awesome for home entertainment and would be a great choice for those with large AND small viewing spaces since you can just move it closer to get a smaller size but I will touch on the smaller size.
It delivers clear visuals with crisp detail and great colors. I was blown away that I could see it just as easily in the day as I could with a normal tv without an optional screen.
It is very quiet during operation, no annoying fan noise disruptions that you have to raise the volume to cover over.
Speaking of volume, it has great sound quality. Very rich which I did not expect out of that at all.
As someone who already has a projector, I expected it to be a lot smaller, so I was surprised with the size. It is not small compared to some projectors you can get, but it is pretty compact for what it provides in options and picture quality. It is a pretty sleek design and looks good on the TV stand. I have set it up to try it as an extra pc monitor to look at market charts and also to play movies from my PC.
It is fast starting up with no wasted time for the device to initialize and the included remote enhances the overall experience with its fast navigation through menus and settings.
While this unit is awesome, given the cost of the unit, it not be the best choice for smaller spaces where a smaller, traditional 4K TV would be more practical, I would say it would be best for very large areas. I myself right now have a smaller space due to renovations and I couldn't use it to its full size yet, and used it closer to the wall that I still have to do over that is pink and has brush strokes, nails, uneven plaster, etc., and it still looked great. I probably would go for this over a tv if it did fit my budget as then I can move it to wherever I want and watch it on the ceiling in bed or on the couch.
I do have 3D glasses since I do have a 3D TV, but I cannot find my glasses since the move so I couldn't test those to see if they were compatible or to see what the 3D is like.
I didn't expect it to come with a 4K Amazon Fire stick so that was pretty awesome to have included.
I have included a still image and a video (removed the sound incase of copyright). There may be flickers but it is the series Fallout which is supposed to look that way and look awesome on it. Keep in mind it is on a pink wall I also have it close to the wall here. I may in the future get their screen to pair with it but I am good even without it.
It is a luxury projector is great for those with spacious settings, with great performance, colour and brightness. It's expensive but as a projector, I recommend it but I do think even with its amazing performance, it is still a bit pricy.
The picture is amazing. Compare with another short throw projectors (Samusang and VAVA), the Formovie Theater is the best. True 4k and the sound quality is beyond expection!
The Formovie Theater offers 4k uhd resolution and it provided sharp and detailed image. The quality is is very good. The connection to my home theater speaker and Denon receiver so far has been great. The setup is straightforward and the projector's compatibility with 3D content added to it appeal. it is great watching with those glasses. The support of hdR10+, Dobly Vision and Dobly Atmos enhances the viewing experience, delivering vibrant colors and sharp details. My family loves it when watching movies.
Absolutely amazing triple laser UST projector. I have it and it is plenty bright for a room with moderate light control. In pure darkness it’s almost too bright! One of the biggest reasons to go with Formovie is customer support. If you have any problems whatsoever they are super responsive and get you anything you need. You won’t find this level of customer support with any other company. Also, super supportive of the product with continuous updates that add new features make it even better.
This projector has been absolutely amazing!! My partner and I bought an Optoma P1 UST projector in autumn of 2019, and almost exactly four years later it just went up in smoke one day when we tried to turn it on. Sent it in for repair, which was going to cost well over $1k, so we decided to just get a new projector instead. We settled on the Formovie Theater and have loved it since day one. It is so much sharper and vibrant than the P1 ever was (perhaps due to the tri-laser system vs. the P1's color wheel?), and works super well with our Elite Screens Aeon (Starbright) screen with 0.6 dB gain. It really comes to life when all of the lights are off, but also functions very well during the day with sun shining into the room. I had read in reviews that it is a little red-heavy, but I honestly can't tell. The only downside in our experience is that we can't ever see ourselves going back to normal TVs :D
So I had been looking at UST projectors for a good year, and finally took the plunge and bought the Formovie . I eventually got this set up with Formovie 120” ALR/CLR screen. I have daytime lights shining through my window at the moment and the screen isn’t washed out. I was coming from a 70” LG tv and am very glad I finally took the plunge.
Formovie Theater definitely set the bar with this product...So far so Great!!! A Fantastic projector, I highly recommend purchasing this model....no projector screen needed.
This replaced an Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 1080p Projector and old/cheap 90" screen (replaced with AWOL 100" ALR screen). It's in the basement which has a few windows but is very light controlled and this thing is BRIGHT! And the picture is AMAZING. Everything is so clear. It's currently sitting on top of my original AV furniture which is too tall, so I'm not getting the full 100" image, but it's centered and perfect for now. If I'm able to modify the current furniture or build something new, I'll dial it in 100% to fit the frame at another time. I've watched my first ever 3D movie (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1) and it's really neat. I don't think I'd want to always watch things in 3D but it's cool once in a while. My center channel speaker is sitting directly in front of the projector which is blocking the IR port on the projector. I bought a cheap IR extender and that fixed the problem instantly. I registered my projector with AWOL and was eventually contacted by support out of the blue to see how things were going. Joel was VERY helpful as I had a few questions about things and he answered everything immediately. I'm VERY happy with this purchase, and the support I've received. It was a BIG purchase for me financially but it was worth every penny. If you're on the fence and reading this, just buy it.
I absolutely love this projector. Preset settings are not great but using calibrated settings from AVS forum makes this projector absolutely stunning. Works so good for HDR, SDR, and Dolby Vision. After getting the picture calibrated many people in the know are saying it provides an image that is up there with the best projectors as any price range. I have mine calibrated to match OLED TV settings and the image just pops so good. With these settings it still looks great even when window shades are open or lights are on. In a pitch dark or near pitch dark setting the image is next level stunning and just sucks you in. 3D is amazing also.
Best product you can find! Great work Formovie Theater.
Whatever screen you will use needs to be flat. You cannot use a screen that is wavy or has wrinkles/creases. That is the nature of the beast with UST projectors. With a standard grey screen you will have decent blacks and very vibrant colors. The light bleed from other areas will bleed into those blacks, but still very enjoyable.
(Update) So I am noticing something that looks like old school “convergence” issue. If you look at the bottom of the HDMI graphic you can see a small outline of red. And at the top a small outline of blue. In the old days, when we used to have three “guns” for color (RGB) and issue like this was taken care of my manually fixing the convergence issue (making sure the RGB gun were all overlapping, which would make that graphic fully white). With this projector I only see a “focus” which doesn’t help this problem. I’m hoping the lasers are out of alignment. The package was left at our doorstep on its side and I have no idea how it was treated before that (eg knocked around on the truck, etc). I’m hoping a call to Formovie will straighten this out. It’s hard to make out in the image I’m uploading, but there does seem to be an issue with the RGB laser convergence.
My wife purchased this as a gift for me on her account. I’m still in the process of setting it up, but have been gobsmacked by the quality. While it does require you to be able to specifically setup the projector Y number of inches down and Z number of inches from the screen, which in my case has been a bit difficult as I’m replacing a long throw projector with this. But it’s doable (I hope). I will rewrite this as I learn more, but am extremely happy with how this projector looks, the image quality is amazing. I’m so glad I didn’t get a pixel doubling projector. I’ve seen those and was unimpressed. However, I’m looking at the top of this page and see a pair of 3d glasses? If I don’t hear back here from the manufacturer I suppose I’ll call them. But it does seem misleading.
I was a bit hesitant about getting a UST without an ALR. I took my chance and wanted to show the quality of the picture! The picture is awesome even during the day, the brightness even during the day without an ALR. I wanted to push the picture size limit in my 2 story room and the picture is still amazing! Happy with this purchase.
This is the second projector I had. This one has a clearer and more realistic picture.
Excellent picture quality and feature set. I mostly wanted this particular model to be able to use it during daylight hours as my previous projector struggled to throw up a good image that wasn't washed out. My room has 2 windows and the Formovie Theater does a good job in producing a surprisingly bright image on my cinema screen
Had an older Halogen lamp Mitsubishi, which eventually failed after 2 years of use.
this upgrade should have been done sooner. multiple mounting options, and the picture is unreal.
My family is a big fan of Sony TV and it is definitely a great risk for getting a projector at this price point to our house. Shipment is fast and Formovie really makes their products easy to install and navigate through different settings. Both my wife and myself are blown off by turning our projector up and the resolution and color brightness is second to none, I have to say it is also very quiet when the projector running and I am very sensitive to the noise level of my surroundings and it is definitely not bothering me or I did not even notice any of operating noise from the projector. All in all, the projector’s performance is pretty amazed me.
Very lastly, the design is simple and modern and it is very easy to get blended into your home with its design and it became my favorite pair with my Sonus Faber speakers.
Great projector. Bright enough for my room with a fresnel screen.
Not too loud but it occasionally spins up the fans for a few minutes.
The colors are amazing and TV like. Skin tones look amazing.
So far it has been great. Wish it had the Philips hue light sync app compatible with it.
I hardly write reviews, but I'm delighted to share my positive experience with AWOL once again. I highly recommend their products. 10/10.
Most people seem to be using this for a dedicated home theatre setup and it will work well! But some of the features are specifically designed for a more casual setting and this is where it can truly shine.
As much as it is impressive what it can do. It has a few quirks and features missing that I wouldn’t expect from a top tier projector. And only 1 year warranty (+1 year extended warranty) is somewhat concerning.
SETUP
It’s ultra short throw so you can quite easily set it up in any room. You don’t have to worry about a spot far from the wall to place it, you just put it right on the floor at the base of the wall just make sure it’s big enough!
The image settings do allow for rear projection and ceiling mounting, but this thing is HUGE so the latter may prove more difficult.
The image goes as small as 50in however the closer to the wall you go, the more little bumps, dents and curves in the wall distort the image. Keep in mind there’s also no ability to change the height of the image so your options can become more limited.
It truly is an all in one device, with decent sound built in, handy if you’re setting up for a simple movie night. But if you have a fixed setup you will appreciate your own sound system.
Unfortunately Bluetooth paring only allows one set of headphones at a time.
PACKUP & STORAGE
This thing is HUGE. So if you are opting for a temporary setup or at least semi temporary you’re going to have issues storing it. Theres no lens cover and no storage bag or dust cover that comes with it, and the box is approx 2.5 x 1.5 x 1ft!
VISUAL QUALITY
This projector is quite incredible. The visual quality is truly outstanding. It’s bright enough to use in a well lit room and can be further improved by using an ALR screen.
The focus is all controlled digitally which is somewhat a concern in case it fails. The screen it uses to focus is also just some boxes in the corners that don’t give you much visual detail to fine tune it.
In a dark room it is incredibly bright and can hurt your eyes initially. I am quite pleased that there is an auto shut off if it detects movement close to the device that should serve well to protect young but inquisitive eyes.
We do have a screen, but we haven't put it up yet. We just haven't gotten around to it, and the projector looks so good even without it.
To be fair, we do have a pretty great area for a projector. We don't have a dedicated theater room, but it is in a basement room with half windows covered with blackout curtains on either side. It works rather well.
My only gripe is that the physical size of the projector is big enough that it was a bit of a hassle to hunt down a surface to sit it on. We ended up with a coffee table. I'm not in love with it, but it works. We do have some added difficulty due to having to find something rather low to the ground since the ceilings are only 8ft in the room it is in.
I purchased a 86” hdtv a year before seeing and buying this and thought I had the best! From the moment I powered this baby up……..my family and I were in a rave…….basically about to make TVs obsolete! The picture quality, the high def, the size…..OMG!!
-It’s not loud and doesn’t run hot.
-Very sharp and great Dolby vision output
-Speakers are loud compared to a TV, but chances are you will have a sound system attached anyway
-Google OS is smooth
Setup takes a little patience to get ever dialed in, but one that is done you just sit back and enjoy, definitely a huge upgrade from a 60” TV I owned for many years.
I can’t think of many features that are missing from this UST.
Would definitely suggest this to anyone, however I believe a good screen is key. Got mine from overseas for a fraction of the price.
- Background: I was coming from only using long throw projectors in the past. I really wanted the ability to have a UST where ppl didn't have to worry about walking in front of the projector. I also was sensitive to the projector not sitting too far away from the wall. This projector checked the box on both of those.
-Performance: out of the box was really impressive. I don't quite have the expertise as many of the reviewers and other users out there around calibration, but I found colors to be quite good out of the box. The only change I often make on each startup is the focus adjustment. It's a quick adjustment, but it would be good if it could save that adjustment.
- Support: I have found the various AVS forums to be very helpful in addressing any questions I have with the unit. Formovie is often on those forums as well seeking feedback and looking to make their product better which I thought was a very good sign. Early products are hard and I could tell from their engagement that they truly wanted to deliver the highest quality performance possible for all customers.
-Sound: The speaker actually is not bad at all. It's workable, but I would think most ppl looking to spend this much on a projector have a separate sound system and that's going to yield the best results.
-Overall: I would recommend this projector. It has performed very well and especially with higher quality content it really shines. I am easily able to watch sports and such during the day with some of the basement lights on and I don't find the image too washed out. The picture is really quite amazing with lights out. One of the hardest things with the setup was actually finding a table that worked well with a UST. I ultimately want with crednza from Sauder.
AMBIENT LIGHT
The room I am in has quite a number of windows, and so there is ambient light in the room. However, none of it is direct on the screen area, and I have a number of trees that help diffuse significant bright sunlight.
Before my screen was delivered, I projected directly on a wall for a couple of weeks. During the day under this circumstance, the image was always visible, but very dark scenes in movies or games could be difficult to view. At night or when overcast, the image was very good even in darker scenes.
Once the ALR screen was installed, light stopped being a problem during the day under all conditions. Movies, shows, and games all look great at any time of day,
The only light issue that can cause any issues is if I turn on bright lights directly at the opposite end of the room, in our kitchen. This is directly in line with the screen and provides the most direct light I can create. Even then, the image is still quite watchable, but it performs best with indirect light in the room (I often have a small lamp on to provide some ambient light at night, for instance).
In the photos, I had two lamps on in my large open living room/kitchen/dining space. While a screen is difficult to capture a photo of, you can see that the image is crisp and clean even with some light in the room.
OPERATION
The projector is easy to use. Some settings are accessed through a dedicated setting menu on the home page, where you can also choose HDMI inputs. Additional settings are accessed through the remote at any time.
The remote feels of very good quality, and is enjoyable to use. It has backlit keys, and feels like a much more premium remote than most electronics come with.
Setup is not hard, but can be slightly fiddly to get the image squared, as much of the adjustment is done by physically adjusting the placement of the projector. This is inherent to all UST projectors.
SOUND
Sound is fine, but not spectacular, from the projector. My room is large enough that it was not powerful enough, and even in a smaller room I would consider using a better sound system. But it is nice that is can be used as an all-in-one unit for video and sound if desired.
PICTURE
The picture is good out of the box. AVS forums has some great guides on how to tweak the settings for the various modes that I found very useful to improve it, but it was very watchable before I tuned the image further.
Focus and uniformity seems excellent on my unit.
MY SETUP
I have the projector mounted on top of a Screen Motorized Slider Tray, which automatically extends to the right spot when I turn the projector on, and then automatically tucks the projector away when I turn it off.
As mentioned, I am using a Nothing Projector 120" Black Series Motorized Floor Rising Screen. The screen is excellent, and I would say either an ALR screen like this or one of the fixed mounted Fresnel screens Formovie offers as part of a kit are essential when using a UST projector.
For sound, I have a Samsung HW-Q990D Q-Series 11.1.4 ch. Wireless Dolby Soundbar. The sound from this system is an excellent match to the picture of the Nexigo Aurora. I tried several other sound options first, and this was the best I tried by a large mile.
CLOSING
The Formovie Aurora Pro is a great projector that provides a beautiful large image. Movies, games, and shows are impressive. This projector will turn your home into a theater. If that is the experience you are after, then I would highly recommend it!
As an avid home theatre enthusiast I’ve owned a bunch of big brand name projectors so for me to venture into an all new projector territory with new features and company I’ve never heard of before was a huge step.
I ordered the Formovie Theater and all the features you’ve read about are true. This pricier has truly an amazing picture.
The one I receive had an issue so I had to send it back and ordered another one which Amazon was nice enough to acknowledge. However the issue minor in most cases and only noticeable by an enthusiast is something that bothered me and I tired calling their customer service. At first I didn’t get a proper answer but the customer support person on the phone opened a ticket and was nice enough to let me know that the next steps may involve a Formovie tech looking into the matter.
I wasn’t expecting much from their customer support but I was truly surprised when their tech manager (Laurie) called me personally and assured me they would look into the matter and even send a tech to my house to take a look into the matter at my convenience. 2 days later Fei and Zam 2 techs dropped by and the adjusted the projector and checks everything which seems fine but the issue was still evident so they offered to take the projector to their head office and check by projecting the image on their screens.
They offered me to come with them so I can be assured that the projector was being carefully handed.
They did a few custom settings and took the time to explain the issue and it was resolved.
Rest assured Formovie has new management (which is what I was also told by the tech manager Laurie ) and their focus is purely customer centric.
It shows.
I’m truly pleased with the level of support and customer service by Formovie tech (Laurie, Fei and Zam) and this product itself is awesome!
As an avid gamer, movie lover and home theatre enthusiast this projector fits the bill and Formovie customer support has gained a customer for life!
Formovie and was immediately impressed with what both of their models had to offer. I opted for the 2500 model, as my home theater room can be completely darkened with no external lights, and the 2600 lumens would provide more than enough brightness. The projector was super easy to unbox and set up, and the menu selections on the remote made sense. I quickly set up the included Amazon Fire Stick in the media stick compartment for HDMI 1 and hooked the HDMI2 (ARC) input to my 4K receiver, leaving the final input to my Apple TV.
One very important step that I took was making the correct calculations for projector placement before I mounted my UST screen to my wall (135"). I was careful to mount the screen using the guidance provided by
Formovie for my screen size, and as I knew that I would not be ceiling mounting the projector, it was easy to place it in front of the screen, center screen. The calibration options were very easy to use, and within 10 minutes, I had a crystal clear image that filled the entire screen evenly with no run-off.
The only caveat is that, though the projector is 3D ready, there are no instructions that guide users on how to use the functionality. For the first month of my ownership, I could not figure out why it wasn't working for me. Fortunately, AWOL-Vision has some of the most patient, capable, and responsive tech support specialists I have ever encountered. After walking me through the hard fixes (software and firmware upgrades and sending along sample videos), they included a video of how to activate 3D. It turns out that I was foolishly pressing the "home" button instead of "settings" while the disc was playing. If I hit Settings and then Image, I was able to adjust the 3D images, and the results were stunning (I used the recommended Elephas Active Shutter 3D for my movies). Thanks to the patience and perseverance of their tech support, they have one happy customer!
I look forward to many movie nights with my new set-up, and I know that software updates will be easy thanks to my tech service experience with them. Once they push out a Dolby Vision update (which I hope comes soon), my home theater system will be firing on all cylinders.
I am very pleased with this product and highly recommend it to any home theater folks who want a projector that provides high quality and ease of use at a great price point.
This is a pretty amazing UST laser projector. This replaces a little cheapo $100 unit we've been using in the bedroom for a 90" big screen that we watch from about 10 feet away in bed. Comparing the two is like night and day. Literally, this projector is like daylight when a light colored screen comes on! It's so bright it will make you wince. I have the laser turned all the way down a lot of time even, and I've calibrated it the best I can by eye with patterns. So the brightness is definitely tamed compared to out of the box settings, and yetqq it still has just incredible brightness. I'm projecting onto a while wall but all the light reflections have me considering a UST screen now... along with some dark paint! We already have blacked out windows and curtains so that helps. But one can (and absolutely should) get an ambient light rejecting screen to put this in a more brightly lit environment.
Either way this projector is at least on par with my OLED in terms of color reproduction when dialed in; it has a major blue and red tint out of the box but once tweaked looks incredible. Then it far exceeds my OLED in terms of brightness and screen size (65" vs 90"+, I would go bigger if I had the room, literally). The only area it can't come close in is blacks. But that's the nature of projection. With a proper UST screen with some grey to it it should darken the blacks and increase contrast. I'm looking into DIY or used options as those screens can come close to a whole TV in cost...
I'm looking into getting this projector, does anyone that own it no if it supports Dolby Vision IQ? That's the one where it uses ambient light sensors to automatically adjust the picture. Different than plain Dolby Vision. You know if it supports it when it gives you the Dolby Vision IQ option under picture settings.
Considerations: In my configuration I mounted to the ceiling which is ideal for keeping dust off of the lense, however the threaded mount holes are aluminum so be careful not to over tighten, I would have liked to see steal to make sure it's fail proof. The remote is actually really nice but does use up it's batteries fairly quickly (4-6 months) from backlighting I suspect. But once they are low the range for the remote drops dramatically. Which is handy to tell they are low but also annoying when buttons don't seem to work.
Overall I would buy this product again without hesitation. It has been flawless in delivering an amazing home theater experience.
Attached images are full day time, windows open - and a little dimmer than actaul because my iPhone downgrades the image in photo vs video modes. (WTH, Apple???)
Have been happy as a clam with the picture since Christmas, and SUPER satisfied with the 3D! Then ran across these Mardigras videos on youtube. Wow; thanks, AWOL.
Running it at 120" on my old DayLite projector screen, which I still need to replace due to subtle waves and no way to stretch it.
So, looking forward the picture getting even BETTER with a new ALR. Which will be just rediculous.
I was a little concerned at first out of the box the unit did not present color or picture as I had hoped this was on the default firmware it shipped with 1.2.X. But after I updated to V1.3.6 it's a totally different story. I just absolutley love the picture quality and color tones now.
The sound is decent for a single unit system but you'll want to pair this with a real sound system so I'm not really judging the product on sound quality.
For reference I have it paired with Klipsch RP 5.1 system, Sony 1000an AVR and he Formovie 120 Fresnel screen.
Formovie Support has been amazing also when I needed them to address a few logistics issues.
I have been using the Formovie Theater 4K UHD Ultra Short Throw Triple Laser Projector for a while now, and it has thoroughly transformed my home entertainment experience. This projector blends cutting-edge technology with user-friendly features to bring a cinema-like experience right into the living room.
Design and Build
The sleek, modern design of the Formovie Theater fits seamlessly into any home decor. Its compact size belies a robust build quality that feels durable and well-constructed. The ultra-short throw capability is a game changer, as it allows the projector to sit just inches away from the wall, saving valuable space while still producing a large and vibrant 150-inch image.
Image Quality
The image quality of the Formovie Theater is nothing short of stunning. Equipped with 4K UHD resolution and triple laser technology, it delivers crisp, clear images with a level of detail that makes everything from movie nights to game days incredibly immersive. The support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+ enhances the visual experience further, offering brighter brights and darker darks. The peak brightness of 2200 lumens ensures that the image remains vivid even in well-lit rooms.
Sound Capability
Sound is another area where this projector shines, thanks to the integration of Dolby Atmos. This feature provides a rich, full audio experience that envelops the room in high-quality sound, minimizing the need for external speakers. Whether you’re watching an action-packed movie or a live concert, the audio is impressively clear and detailed.
Features and Functionality
One of the standout features is its compatibility with the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, included in the package. This allows for easy access to streaming services, apps, and other online content, essentially turning the projector into a smart entertainment hub. The Active 3D is an exciting addition for anyone who loves a more lifelike viewing experience, though you will need to purchase 3D glasses separately.
Pros
Ultra Short Throw: Huge, clear images from just a few inches away.
Triple Laser Technology: Superior color accuracy and image clarity.
Built-in Dolby Atmos: High-quality, immersive audio without additional equipment.
Smart Features: Comes with Fire TV Stick 4K Max for immediate streaming.
Cons
Brightness: While 2200 lumens is impressive, some ultra-bright environments might diminish viewing quality slightly.
Price: The high-end features come with a high price tag, which might be a consideration for some budgets.
Target Audience
This projector is ideal for movie buffs and tech enthusiasts looking for a premium home theater system. It's also perfect for families who enjoy hosting movie nights or watching sports events together.
Support and Pricing
AWOL Vision offers detailed customer support, including setup assistance and troubleshooting, which adds significant value. The price, while on the higher end, reflects the advanced technology and premium features you receive. It’s an investment in top-tier home entertainment.
Alternatives
For those considering other options, the Samsung Premiere LSP9T and the VAVA 4K UHD Laser TV Home Theatre Projector are worthy competitors. Both offer similar features but differ slightly in user interface and additional functionalities.
Conclusion
Formovie Theater is an exceptional projector that offers a spectacular home cinema experience. It’s a case of "seeing is believing," and this projector proves its worth with every use. Whether you’re a cinephile or just someone looking to upgrade your home theater system, the Formovie Theater is a splendid choice.
I was blown away by the picture resolution and brightness. Setup was a little tricky but worked fine in the end. The unit is a little bit bulky, but if you have the space you will be really pleased with your purchase.
I’m updating from a 1080p projector and yes I have a 65” 4k Sony TV in order to compare what my eyes see. I’m not an image enthusiast to tell you all of that stuff that I don’t understand. What I can tell you is that I have 20/20 vision and the image is amazing.
I recommend this projector as I’m using it on a 110” screen. Movie time has evolved!
Minor: Remote isn't great. I would advise doing more research. I use a SofaBaton which does not work just yet, but hopefully soon an update will add proper controls. It works, just not as well as I'd like. The included remote is pretty terrible, not even backlighting and that is one of the party tricks of this Formovie Theater UST projector, the amazing theatre quality in the dark. Backlighting is important.
However, an ALR screen wow. It's.....unlike anything else in bright conditions. With a frame, it doesn't even look like its a projector but an OLED! 100" OLED !?!??!?! Not with this price. I ended up finding a 100" DIY kit with a proper thick ALR screen. There are many brands, on Amazon and other sources. The build is simple but mounting is the main concern.
Anyways, ALR screen, remote, these two are my recommendations.
As for the projector. It's a beast. It's quiet. It's 4K HDR in bright and dark conditions are out of this world. The project is kind of big and requires some thought in placement because it needs the space from the wall/screen. This is another major concern, that not everyone can DIY, but I can recommend professional services which have started to offer this, similar to TV mounting.
For those with the budget. Get the AWOL 100" automatic ALR screen for the $2000 or so. It's a lot but its worth it, and realistically should not break and can be reused in the future. Seeing it open and having your friends jaw drop is.....glorious. 10/10 would do again
Very pleased with the customer service, and quick delivery as well!
Art
It’s important to know you need a fixed frame screen for this projector. I was using a basic pull down and it was super wavy.
Pros:
- picture quality
- looks and functionality
- UI is pretty decent
Cons:
- setup and alignment is time consuming
- black levels could be a little better, but they’re still really good
It’s packaged wonderfully for shipping. All components are protected by shape-cut foam, and it’s so well-packed that it’s actually kind of hard to get it out of the box. That’s the kind of problem I like to have, though.
Picture quality is very good, and much brighter than expected, but you may need to invest in a higher end screen to get top image quality...and those aren’t cheap. The built-in speakers really impressed me, and I was amazed at how easy everything was to set up. Basic setup can be done in just a few minutes, though placement will take some trial and error to get the device lined up properly.
A major downside is that the HDMI, USB, and composite inputs are on the back of the device. That means you’ll have to move it to access them...and then go through all of the positioning all over again each time. I’d recommend using a USB hub if you plan to play flash drives regularly. It also won’t play some formats. MP4 works perfectly, but it won’t recognize AVI files with the Xvid codec.
A Firestick is included in the box, which was an unexpected treat, and there’s even a dedicated compartment to house it on the rear of the projector. There are built-in apps for basic functions, and I actually kind of like the little web browser. Networks are easy to set up, and the only issue I noticed was some minor lag.
First and foremost, the image quality, when adhering to the vendor's specifications, is absolutely excellent. The colors are vibrant, and the clarity is top-notch.
One thing to note is that the projector's size is slightly larger than I initially expected. However, this doesn't diminish its overall appeal, especially given the exceptional image quality it delivers.
What pleasantly surprised me was the low noise level of the projector. Projectors can often be quite noisy, but this one operates relatively quietly.
A standout feature is the built-in sensor that detects when someone is close to the device and automatically turns off the lasers.
This thing is incredible. Everyone posted pictures of their projector in a dark room so I figured I’d post one with every light on :) as you can see the picture is amazing. Very very pleased with this set up!
That is until now!
The projector arrived very well-packaged and surrounded by thick foam for protection
Next, you plug in the projector, put the batteries in the remote, and turn on the projector.
When I first turned on the projector I was blown away at how a projector, so close to the screen could project such an amazing image. I only needed to make some very minor adjustments to the position of the projector to get the image to fill my screen perfectly.
After about 15 minutes of setting things up, it was time to test this projector.
I still have my other 4K projector connected and hanging from the ceiling so I wanted to play the same video with both projectors to compare the images.
I used a video that uses DOLBY vision and was 4k and played it on both projectors at the same time. I blocked the image on each of them so I could compare the images. WOW, I could not believe the difference.
I have seen and tested a lot of projectors for home theatre and this was by far the best I have ever tested.
A huge plus with this projector is that the lighting source is 3 lasers. This gives a "bulb" life of 25000 hours!! The most I have ever got from a projector with a standard bulb is 4000 hours. Also as the bulb gets older the picture brightness goes down but not with lasers. A laser will maintain close to 100% of its brightness for the full duration of its life, in this case, 25000 hours!!!
You also never know when a bulb is going to stop working. My current projector after 3500 hours made a popping noise and the bulb was done. I had people over to watch a movie and it was very embarrassing. It took 2 weeks and $400 for a new bulb.
There are speakers built into the Formovie Theater projector that are surprisingly good. They sound more like a sound bar for a TV than a tinny little speaker found on most TVs.
For someone who does not want to go through the expense and trouble of setting up an entire theatre room with multiple speakers the built-in speakers are more than adequate. This makes setup so easy.
After trying the projector with this easy setup I next wanted to send the video source to the projector from my 4K Dolby Vision compatible receiver. I have several video devices already attached to my receiver including a TV box, an NVIDIA Shield streaming box, a PS5, and a Blu-ray player.
This allowed me to take full advantage of DOLBY ATMOS since I have 9+ speakers connected to my receiver.
This made this truly a very immersive experience and the best I have ever had or seen.
The Formovie Theater projector is very quiet and the quietest projector I have ever used. You don't even notice it. With my ceiling-mounted projector, the projector is directly above the seating area and can be heard.
If you are familiar with the rainbow effect from other DLP projectors then you know that for some people this can be troublesome. I can always move my eyes in such a way as to create the rainbow effect with other DLP projectors but not with this one. There is no color wheel and I couldn't create the annoying rainbow effect.
There are 3 HDMI inputs one of them being eArc. This allows you to send the audio signal from the projector to your receiver to take advantage of a more advanced audio setup such as one for DOLBY ATMOS. This works great if you are only using a couple of components for your video source but I prefer having all my components plugged into my receiver than the video going to the projector.
There are a lot of settings on this projector. I am not going to get into them all but if you are not a videophile that is not a problem. The settings right out of the box are amazing and I only had to do some small tweaks. I did find the vivid picture mode to be the best and I do recommend that.
I could go on forever on how great this projector is and I do apologize for this long review but I felt that this projector needed and deserved it.
This is a great projector for someone new to home theatre and those more advanced users. For the newbies, the setup is so easy. You could set it on the floor by a white wall, turn it on, and get an amazing image.
Advanced users will not be disappointed either. This is the best image from a home theater projector that I have ever seen and since I will use this for all my TV and movie watching it will save me a lot of money in replacement bulbs over the years.
If I were to watch this projector for 5 hours a day, every day, then the laser would last almost 14 years!!!!
This is not your average projector and the price is that for a premium projector but for all of the features and the quality of the image and the projector it is a very fair price.
I do recommend this projector to anyone wanting one of the best images available from a projector.
The last 1 pictures I have attached are pictures taken of video put out by this projector. The pictures do not do this projector justice but give you an idea of how amazing the images are.
It should be noted that to make a 120” screen, the thing has to be fairly low to the ground if you don’t have an incredibly high ceiling. Mine is in the basement and the ceiling is probably 9’ high. The projector is on a short stand that I found and is about 16” tall. It also has to sit about a foot and a half away from the wall to make the screen that big. If that’s ok with you, this thing is incredible, especially for the price. While shopping around, I obviously found many that were far more expensive. They may be better, but for twice the price? Probably not twice as good. The 4K looks amazing on a screen this size. Setup was very easy. Adjusting the screen size and the corner points is pretty self explanatory, just takes some playing with the positioning of the unit. And the screen adjustment settings. If you bump it or need to move it, getting it back to where you had it is very simple.
I’ve always had Apple TV systems for my other TVs, this uses the google play system which functions very similarly. No real complaints with that. Overall, for an entry level short throw projector with options for a very large screen, I can’t imagine much better for this price point.
The fan is quite, you can still hear it but it is not annoying to me.
The amount of parameters that can be tweaked is very useful so you can adapt the image and the sound according to your liking.
Some cons:
-It is quite heavy and big.
The Pros - this is the best projector ever! The laser is bright and the colors are insane. It truly has 4k to 8k resolution and the contrast is almost OLED quality. Having 3 HDMI and one of them being an ARC makes a great and easy connection to your home theatre system. It truly feels like being in your own personal theatre.
The only setback I have is it is hard to center the picture on the screen --You need a lot of patience.
I recently purchased the Formovie Ultra Short Throw Projector, and I couldn't be more impressed! This projector has exceeded all my expectations and transformed my viewing experience at home. The image quality is outstanding. The colors are vibrant, and the contrast is excellent.
The built-in speakers provide surprisingly good audio quality, eliminating the need for external speakers in most cases. Of course, for a cinematic experience, I still connect it to my sound system, and the results are phenomenal.
I highly recommend it to fellow movie enthusiasts, gamers, and presenters!
I am using the Formovie 150 inch screen along with the projector and watching movie at my home is WAY BETTER than watching in a theater. The clarity is excellent and the projector is literally silent
Nichteinmal einfachste Statusinformationen (z.B. An/Aus, gewählte Quelle).
It sits on my tv stand and shoots 150” on the wall
My main video source is an nVidia Shield TV Pro which is connected to a Marantz 6015 Receiver. The receiver is then connected to the projector. I'm projecting onto a 100" Elite Screens Perforated Screen with 0.8 gain. The screen base is 3' above the ground. The entire video pipe supports 4K HDR except for the Epson projector (which is the main reason for the upgrade).
My Epson is a traditional projector that is ceiling mounted at the rear of the room. Upgrading to the UST Formovie required I free up some space in front of my projector screen and purchase a small stand to place it. Once placed atop the stand it was fairly easy to configure. When it first powered on it prompted me to upgrade the firmware. Aligning the screen was pretty simple, physically moving the projector to line up and then going into the Formovie projector's 4 & 8 point alignment. Just be careful not to bump/move your stand by accident because you'll have to re-align everything.
Once aligned I starting playing with the Menu system. It loads into a bright menu where you can configure all the different settings and launch different apps. I ended up removing the option to make everything 60fps, it makes movies look like soap operas. I did set the 24fps settings by default.
I was able to install the Netflix and amazon prime applications on it. When I tried using Netflix it appeared not to function when pressing the directional buttons on the Formovie remote. As it turns out the Netflix app has issues with the directional buttons and you have to use the mouse feature of the remote. Pushing the button with multiple overlaid circles enables the mouse feature. Using the Netflix app on the Formovie OS does not currently support 4k. I then used Netflix on my nVidia shield and that worked perfectly. I also tried Netflix on the included Firestick 4k and that worked as expected.
Without changing the default color settings the picture quality is stunning. It is very bright, much more then my epson. The colors are very vibrant without being oversaturated and the blacks are very dark. I'm very impressed with the difference in video quality between this projector and my epson. Shadows are very extremely detailed and just blow the epson out of the water. I am able to use this projector during the day with ambient daylight. The blacks become washed out but the image is still very clear.
The only thing I did notice that was slightly annoying was a very visible rainbow effect. This was especially prevalent on black and white films and white subtitles on dark backgrounds. This wasn't something I experienced before with the epson. After 2 months of use the effects are still there but I've gotten accustomed to them and notice them less.
The addition of a speaker on the projector is nice. The audio quality is pretty low from this speaker but it helps economize on my electric bill. Sometimes I just turn on the projector to watch the daily news or documentaries. In those cases there really isn't a need to power up the receiver and suck up 700W from it plus another 200W off the subwoofer.
This projector also has a nice little feature that I didn't expect, sleep. This is the first projector I've seen with sleep, usually this is reserved for regular TVs. I use this option quite often when watching movies at midnight, knowing I'm going to doze off.
After 2 months I did run into one issue, where the projector turned on and had overlaid text indicating "Safe Mode". It did not inhibit anything but I'm not sure why caused the text to display. It was present on all different hdmi inputs and on the Formovie OS. After rebooting the projector this text disappeared and has not reappeared. Another thing I noticed is an audio hum that happens when navigating the amazon prime menu. It was only prevalent at night when using the built-in speaker. The buzz was not present when using my receiver. Lastly you need to be careful with dust. My epson came with a dust cap that I could place over the lens, plus the lens was not pointing up. The Formovie lens is pointed up and works like a dust magnet in my house. What I usually do now is cover up the top of the projector larger book so that dust doesn't fall on the lens.
Would I recommend this projector? Yes to anyone that is looking for their first projector or looking to upgrade from a 1080p model. This is fantastic projector that made me want to view all my 4K movie collection over again to see all the nuanced details not present with the Epson.
Looks amazing on tan wall in living room near windows. Not even going to order a screen. Adjust dark scenes in shows/movies by going to settings
and changing it to user controlled and change the brightness/contrast. Fixed the one issue I had with it. Amazing quality and very clear!
Works well with surround system. Clear bright colors with Roku, Xfinity, and a Samsung blue ray 3d disk player.
I have had the projector for enough time to tell you that it works great and Formovie have contacted me by email to make sure I am satisfied. You can't go wrong in my opinion.
Have used it for about 1 week, so we haven't gotten the settings fully dialed in yet. So far, it is really impressive, although we have mixed feelings about such a large UST projector that must sit out in plain view right in front of the screen. Our previous projector has a great shelf location that blends into the room's decor. Our entertainment cabinet is not designed for hiding a UST projector, so any modification will include having to obtain a custom made glass top with a hole cut in it -- expensive.
Massive upgrade from our old Epson PowerLight Cinema 8100 UD. The PowerLight is a true 1080p projector, so its image is bested only by 4k, but the brightness was limited to mostly night time/fully light-controlled settings. The AWOL is intensely bright when we watch in the evenings, with some scenes being too bright. Our screen apparently has some waviness that really shows up with the UST type projectors, and the longer throw Epson handily masked those imperfections; we might have to drop a lot more change on a new screen. I find the 4k images are incredibly detailed, but often too harsh, particularly on TVs, and this projector suffers from this same problem, but is somewhat softer. Over time, I will adjust to the harsher lighting and happily soak up the amazing details. The onboard speakers are helpful in combination with our home theater sound system -- the center channel dialogues are always really tough to render correctly -- but sometimes there is bit of syncing delay, so this will be one of the tweaks to be sorted out. Overall, I am pleased with the unit.
The Formovie projector is a game-changer for home entertainment. Its exceptional picture quality, immersive sound, and user-friendly design make it a must-consider for anyone seeking a top-tier USTP experience. While the price might be a barrier for some, its performance and features easily justify the investment for those who value the ultimate home theater setup.
For those seeking a stunning, versatile, and convenient way to elevate their entertainment, the Formovie projector is an easy recommendation.
This probably is the best 4k 120hz budget projector on the market yet
It’s easy to set up. We didn’t use the handbook. We watched the demonstration video online. We can download so many Apps. Different apps, I mean it have Chinese show app, Japanese show app and other language apps. It also comes with fire stick. We tried it , it mostly have old shows and the picture quality is not as good. And when we do the screen mirroring it didn’t work so good. Loosing connection often. The sound is good enough for us to watch movies.
Overall we all liking this laser projector.

I'm thoroughly pleased with the quality of this projector. This is the first projector I've ever owned and it's taken me several years to purchase it due to my own uncertainties about projectors over tvs. I'm very glad I made the leap!!!
It was also bigger than I expected, heavier too. But that's not an issue. The construction is gorgeous, definitely worthy of what this bad boy does. I love that you can adjust the screen size by a huge amount. I was able to fit it on my wall at the perfect size for what I needed. Overall I'm super happy with this projector and I definitely recommend it for those who don't want to deal with a complicated setup.
Writing this review after using this projector for 6+ months. So far everything is good, projector is running great, great picture, 3D , Dolby vision all good, a right purchase.
Buy an ALR screen to see the best results!!
This projector is really incredible. To top it all off, all inputs are 4k/120hz making gaming that much better!
Definitely recommended
Have had unit up in dedicated basement home theatre. Minimal usage. Picture is actually very good on our 150" elite screen. But has already developed 2 dead pixels. Still waiting on customer service to reply. Will update if when...
UPDATE.
after review and contacting customer service. I was promptly offered BOTH a full refund or a new unit shipped out. The units performance outside of the pixel issue has been thoroughly enjoyable for our theater, so I opted to take a replacement. You know, things sometimes happen with electronics, but it does not seem to be a wide spread issue , and they promptly and generously stood behind their product. So I'm in it with em! Great product 👌
Perfekt zum Gaming (niedrige Latenz und 120 HZ). Zudem ein LaserTV mit Dolby Vision & eArc für Dolby Atmos Support
The only downside.... My wife now likes to see the Virgin River on the big screen.
-Compact body with loud speaker for portability
- Formovie reliability. I only use their brand.
-Super easy corner keystone setup; i cannot stress how important this feature is for non-experts like me. Just set it and forget it.
The quality of picture is great in low light area. It has Film-Maker mode in picture setting and it gives theater like experience. Remote control has short cut for Picture setting and Audio setting which is helpful to easily change appropriate picture and audio setting without closing current program. This projector is for low light area. I wouldn’t recommend this projector if there is lot of lights in room or for outdoor.
Sound from is good enough for my basement but I am using external soundbar (from Sony 2.1 channel with inbuilt subwoofer). I would suggest using external soundbar and/or speaker system to improve sound experience. Dolby atoms sound is great using external soundbar/sound system. It has eARC port for easy connection for external sound system.
It doesn’t have advanced Wi-Fi 6, 6e or 7 but has Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac (dual band) which is more than enough to watch movies, sports and TV show over Google TV. I needed to buy Wi-Fi extender (TP-Link Wi-Fi range extender, approximately $139.00 with tax from Best Buy) to get better Wi-Fi signal in basement. It would be great this projector has Wi-Fi 6, 6e or 7.
It has Google TV and it has all the apps I needed including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sling, ESPN, You Tube and Tablo TV. Some apps require download which is easy with Google account.
It does not have TV Tuner which I don’t need it and I don’t miss it. Now, many Apps are available to watch local channels for free and Apps availability for local channels will improve in future.
Great and quick customer service experience from the dealer for price adjustment.
One problem I have noticed is this projector turns on itself on some nights and I haven’t figured out to fix this problem yet. Not sure if this is a bug which may require software update. I need to make sure to plug it out at night to prevent turning it on itself.
I've got a few budget projectors, which go for a fraction of the cost of the Aurora Pro, but none even come close to the quality and feature set!
I will say this: Invest in a quality projector screen. Whether it's white or grey will depend on the environment you plan to use it in, but get one that's good quality to take advantage of this projector. High-quality projector paint is also an option.
The Aurora Pro is an "ultra short throw" projector, this is important to know because that means you're placing this in front of the screen, rather than your ceiling or across the room. This has several advantages, but one of them is that the built-in speakers are best place in front of you, so you can pretty much use the built-in, rather than investing in a separate soundbar. The audio isn't as good as the best soundbar, but it's above average for most small speaker systems.
This projector is loaded with advanced features, and it's almost unbelievable when you consider the price point: 4k, Dolby Vision + Atmos, HDR10, laser (rather than bulb), 120hz, DLNA, Miracast, low-latency, and it also supports Active 3D (you'll need special 3d glasses for this feature).
There are loads of input options, but only one HDMI port supports 120hz, so I'd consider plugging your console or gaming PC to that port, and other input devices to the others.
The interface is Android TV, which is easy to navigate and use. The benefit of this OS is that you get easy access to apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Disney+, etc. Of course, you'll need a subscription for most of those other services.
The video quality is out of this world, and this projector has convinced me that laser projectors are where it's at!
Based on value, you can't touch what this projector offers in a TV, at least not without spending 3x more. If you want BIG, this is the best value.
With my Xbox Series X, all the advanced features were picked up: 4k, 120hz, Dolby Vision, etc. Gaming is buttery smooth, and if there's any latency, I don't notice it!
I can go on and on about just how impressive this projector is, and while you'll never be able to appreciate the quality of the image in photos or video
The image quality produced by this projector is really spectacular. I'm not fully set up for it so I'm casting it on a dark grey wall, sometimes with ambient light flowing in from 3 sides. And still - the image quality is surprisingly good. It's better in a dark room which is completely within reason.
Ease of use is a major high point for this projector. It was only a couple of easy steps more than plug and play. Connection to wi-fi was seamless and has not wavered (full disclosure, the projector is sitting only 6 feet away from the router and modem.) Pairing the remote was similarly painless. And after that, I was ready to go!
The USB and HDMI ports are really where I will get some use. The picture is great for gaming and I was able to play files I had saved on a flash drive - although there are some firmware incompatibilities and I wasn't able to play all of the files. I can adapt to that.
The built-in apps are mediocre at best and there are serious blockers (licensing issues) to improving them. (I can't sign in to YouTube, can't even open Discovery+, and Netflix is barely useable.) I have learned that the best way to use the Aurora Pro for streaming is to use an external streaming stick. It's not ideal - for this asking price I would rather see it fully functional out of the box. At the same time, it's not the end of the world for me. What it lacks in User Interface excellence, it more than makes up for in awesomeness of projecting beautiful, large moving images on my wall.
Projectors are a bit of a luxury items for homes. You can easily get yourself a cheap conventional projector. But it's not something you will want to use everyday. Short throw projector try to address many of the issues with regular projectors, but at a cost.
The Aurora Pro is a great projector. It's amazing how close you can put it to your wall. And in doing so, minimizes so many of the issues of regular projectors. You don't have to have the projector beside you, behind you, or hanging off the ceiling. It goes where your TV would go! Projectors tend to have very loud fans, since projectors get very bright and hence, HOT. This one is minimally loud. You hear it when the movie is quiet, but it's not bad. Colours are great. But mostly bright colours. Dark scenes can be a bit rough. But that's a limitation of projectors. These are not OLED screens with perfect blacks.
The onboard software is fine. But I would just move on to one of your 4K streaming sticks. FYI, the USB slots may not provide enough power, so some streaming sticks may need to be plugged into an adapter straight into the outlet. I appreciate the safety sensor for not looking into the light and causing damage to your eyes. Sound is great, and gets plenty loud. Though I prefer watching quieter at night, and when the volume is low, you can distinctly hear the fan. Another limitation is the surface of your wall. Best to use a screen. You can use your wall, but I found out during testing that many of my walls are not perfectly flat. So when scrolling side to side, you can see the image flow across those bumps in your wall. Lastly, the remote is backlit, which is great, but needs line of sight with the front of the projector. So you can't be tucking the unit away behind any furniture.
it's certainly a luxury item for your movie room. Before considering this, make sure you have the space, the wall area, and a dark room. Short throw projectors are amazing. But they have limitations. If you have a very dedicated use for this, it's a great purchase. Just remember to check off all the boxes before jumping on this great technology.
This projector is not little it's about 25 lbs big and worth every penny. Photos don't do it justice but the picture quality is absolutely amazing. Easy to set up and use im using a Amazon Fire stick with it.
This is a very nice projector with a very bright and detailed picture. I have it installed recently, I gave a first review, and added updates already.
As expected, It is very sensitive to screen quality. Any wrinkle will be amplified, and if using a wall, it needs to be really straight. My 120 inch screen has 5 eyelet on the top, and this is not enough to get a perfect stretch, you need a good quality one. The blacks are decent, similar to a good lower power projector, but this one is brighter, giving a better contrast. Black is mostly influenced by ambient lighting, I'll look for an ambient light rejection screen for that matter.
Audio looks impressive at boot up, but disappoint once you start a film. I am not sure how to describe this, but it looks like too much surround added. I originally thought that changing the audio setting means going back to the main menu which stops the film, but there is a second way to access the settings using the remote, so you don't need to stop the film. Switching to SPDIF cuts the speaker, which is OK as decoding usually results in slightly off sync audio.
Using Netlfix app results in SD content only, In fact, Netflix reported that the new device was a web browser, not surprising since I had to use the remote in mouse mode. I installed Kodi, since this is my PVR client, and Kodi only reported 1080 as the maximum resolution. Using a Fire Stick allowed me to get Netflix 4K movies and Kodi reported a 4K resolution. It is super cool to get apps on the projector, but they need to allow use the projector to its best, which does not look to be the case now.
So now I'm using a FIre Stick and I configured the power to work with the Fire Stick so I can power on the projector from the Fire Stick power button. To do so, I set the IR profile to 4737 which is for Viewsonic PJD Series Projector, it looks to be the closest match. I then set the power off option to have power command sent twice on power off. Power ON and OFF work Nicely, Input selection is not working yet, but the default input on the projector is set to the FIreTv so I go to the display directly.
I also configured the projector with a universal remote controller, the one with a hub. For Bluetooth control, I used a FireTv remote configuration, I mean the remote pairs with the projector as if it was a Bluetooth FireTV remote, other Bluetooth option works either not, partially or erratically. I accidentally turned the Bluetooth off will testing different options, and noticed that the remote is also an IR remote, and IR is used to power on the projector.
Adjustments like focus and keystone are easy to make, the colour is pretty good out of the box. I did not have to play a lot with the projector setting to get a pretty good image.
The Formovie Theater is nothing short of incredible. It's a versatile, well-built and functional piece of hardware that any home-entertainment fanatic would go crazy over.
To begin with the packaging, it's a great unboxing experience overall and doesn't feel anything short of high-premium. The box it comes in is very well-built, sturdy, has lots of protective packaging AND has a handle if you want to re-store and carry the projector. The box includes a number of accessories, including a power cable, remote and various other projector-based items (the usual..). The remote lights up and functions quite well. I find I must actually aim it directly at the projector for it to pick up inputs and can lag/delay on occasion.
Turning on the Aurora for the first time is breathtaking. I truly didn't know what I was expecting and it really did shock me in the best way possible. The projected screen is bright, vibrant and is very difficult to see through. Audio is loud, bassy and overall, very well-balanced for a truly cinema-like experience.
It's built on some kind of custom Android skin, but the array of settings you are given (i.e. built into the software) is very impressive. Lots of things to tinker with and truly maximize not only your visual experience, but also the audio. Focusing the Aurora is easy and thanks to a recent update, now features an improved "focus screen" to really help users sharpen the device to its fullest (based on the wall/backdrop you're projecting on). I love the MEMC mode for gaming and being able to see some of the 30fps exclusive games that I own on Nintendo Switch in a "mimicked" 60fps mode is very cool. Needless to say, current-gen consoles like the PS5 is incredible, as are blu-rays.
There's a generous array of input and output ports and so far I haven't had issues with third-party devices, such as my 4k Fire Stick, picking up the ability to project in 2k and 4k. The first thing I did was start up YouTube on our Fire Stick and take in some glorious 4k content.
So, overall, the Aurora is an amazing device. If you're shopping around for a short throw, 4k laser projector then look no further.
Amazing machine..very happy
Awesome all-in-one projector
Got this projector for my basement. I purchased the bundle with the 120” white matte screen. If looking for an economical model that offers the best features n quality, don’t look beyond this model. Great picture quality, and output.
I am so happy with this purchase. This projector looks and sounds satisfying. The picture is so much better than my 65-inch TV. The sound is great as it is, but it can be upgraded with a Receiver. You can watch YouTube videos and get a million reasons why some other projector is better , but take it from me most of the diff is nothing but mind games. For the regular Joe, this is perfect!!
This is my first time using a tri color laser projector. With the images being in 4K, it is unbelievable how games look on my wall. We will be using this for all our regular TV shows, movies and gaming. It was simple to get set up and working. I have used projectors in the past, but none even comes close to this one. This projector even has a great 60W speaker system in it. The bass can be heard really well, and that is what I like when watching movies. The awesome screen pictures is due to the Dolby Vision being built in. There seems to be 0 lag in this system even when playing fast paced games. As of right now, we are just using this on a white wall in our family room. I do plan the get the Fresnel ALR screen. I am positive that will make the images even better than they are now. This projector is highly recommended.
The picture quality is AMAZING! I’m using it with a 100 inch screen from Screen Innovations that is designed for projectors like this and WOW. Ambient light isn’t an issue and at night it looks as good as going to the movies.
Buy this model. Only model so far that support Dolby Vision.
This thing is everything I wanted in a projector, and I still haven’t used it to it’s full potential. 8 inches away gives me about a 98” screen. I’m sure it looks even better with a screen vs my wall with flat white paint. It comes packaged extremely well, which was a huge concern of mine for the price I was paying. Definitely bigger than I had hoped but it’s completely fine for what I’m getting. Set up is a breeze. No lag with video gaming. Loud and sounds amazing. Took my small bonus room to the next level. I have it and now I’m curious how much better the other models are because this one is great. Even better that I caught it on the Black Friday sale. The fire stick is cool but I’ll probably plug up a 4K Apple TV to it instead.
Coming from other projectors there was an oddly unknown learning curve! But once you understand the way in which these projectors work, you learn to appreciate them more! Before purchasing I had two main requirements; e-arc hdmi and three lasers! This has both! Then having the 8-point key correction was a bonus, also the light adjustments are awesome! Then WTH they threw in 3D capabilities. I only have 2 3D movies but might be scouring for more since this is not a mainstream media anymore! Currently I am using one of my white screens which still looks good in the day but magnificent at night! So I am highly considering an ALR screen in the near future! To add: I am doing 100inch screen about 12inches from the screen and 12inches off the floor. The screen itself is about 2 feet 5inches from the floor. Like I said it took a bit to learn this new format but once you do it’s well worth it! I am happy I made the ‘short’ leap!
Liked the projector. its have maxed specs and output. Only concern was no out of box app which is good and bad. enjoyed with apple tv.
Bought this item on Black Friday deal. Best price for Prime members. Setup the projector and the quality of the picture is amazing. Bigger screen size gives the theater experience. Whatsapp support was quick and effective.
About a month ago, my friend showed me their Formovie projector that he was using in his home theater. I never heard about UST projectors so I didn’t know what to expect and then when he put on a movie I was blown away. The picture looked great and the screen was huge! I had been wanting to get a bigger TV and a 120 inch screen wasn’t on my list but after seeing it in person I needed it. My friend showed me all the different features and settings since I had never heard of Formovie and convinced me to get one for myself. He even helped me set it up which was super quick and easy. I wasn’t putting the projector in a home theater space like him which I was a little worried about since it wouldn’t be in a dark room but the projector was still bright and clear. Watching football games on this has been on another level and I’m waiting on a blu-ray player !
My only complaint (and it's not honestly specific to THIS projector, but any UST projector) is if you move it the smallest bit your screen is off. I still haven't been able to get mine 100% exactly where I want. I had to get a pretty low table to set it on (12" tall) which is lower than most tv stands or coffee tables, but higher than any other type of stand like a monitor stand.
Before you spend this kind of money definitely look up reviews and info on UST projectors on YouTube. They'll never be as sharp, crisp and brilliant as a 4K tv. If you are okay with that, it's amazing having a huge monster screen, but personally I like it as kind of a "movie room" set up, while still having high quality bright brilliant tv's in other areas like the living room.
I use the Formovie 4K UHD Ultra Short Throw Triple Laser Projector with a 120" ALR screen. The output is simply crystal clear. Combined with Bose Acoustimas 5.1 gives an immersive theatre feel. But the projector is expensive.
We bought the Aurora Pro in Nov 2023. We are super happy with it. Picture quality is superb and the black is super black making dark scenes and movies very detailed. Extremely enjoyable. We highly recommend this product. We also appreciate that Formovie has meaningful updates once in a while that improve the Aurora Pro features further.
For the Formovie contest, my setup is as follows. Elunevision Aurora 8K ultra short throw nanoedge screen size 150’. Amazon Fire stick 4K. Sony STR-AN1000 amplifier. Certified 8K HDMI cable for eARC. Jamo speakers (which I may upgrade eventually). Klipsch 12” subwoofer.
I’ll start with a quirk that might be helpful to know about in case you don’t read further. Even though this projector has built-in software, the set arrived with the pleasant surprise of a Firestick to stream with. If you decide to pair this controller’s volume control and on/off switch with he projector, you will discover the Formovie brand device are not included in the options. Fortunately, I was able to find a workaround for this. By selecting “brand not listed” at the bottom of the long list and then choosing the menu option, there is an option to enter the projector specific IR code to make the Firestick controller work with the projector. The code is 4737.
On to other things, I was very pleased with the variety of settings options for audio and visual control. You can use either four or eight points to key control to get the image to the right shape. While I found that the upper left corner seemed prone to slight blurring for me, I was able to get it to the point that it has a nice image.
The overall picture quality is good. I haven’t been able to test it on a proper, high quality, projection screen, so it’s hard for me to say just how good the image quality truly is. On my slight green wall, the picture is solid. The picture quality is sufficient with my lights on, though I felt like it struggled during the day with lights on and daylight streaming in with a show involving darker cinematography. With the lights off it does a good job even during the day. In the evening, with the lights off, the brightness is unsurprisingly excellent. I’ve noticed there are some very expensive projector screen options that might dramatically improve the image and light production, but I can’t speak to the difference those might make.
A safety feature I love is eye protection. It is easy to lean over the unit trying to adjust something, position it, or grab something nearby, and the lasers are not safe to look at. For protection, the unit comes with a safety feature enabled that automatically dims and blackens most of the screen when motion is detected above the lasers. You can release that setting by pushing a button on the remote or turn the future off altogether if you don’t like it. Particularly in a house with children, I think this an important feature.
I was taken aback by the size. While the listing does have those specifications, I didn’t look for or notice them when ordering. Based on the picture alone, I had it in mind that this was a relatively small device that would be easy to move around. It is not. In fact, it’s a bit of a behemoth. At 22 pounds, and almost 22*16*5, this is not a unit that can sit on the mantle. I had hoped to keep it nuzzled up next to the wall with a slim table, but it really needs a TV stand.
It’s also better to set it up on something the height of a TV stand to get the size and height right. To get anywhere near the maximum potential size, the unit needs to be moved several inches out from the wall, plus the laser is on the far size of the Formovie from the wall. As a result, the image doesn’t begin showing until a foot or so above the projector. In rooms with an average ceiling height, a regular table can quickly have the image near the ceiling. A lower, TV stand height table can provide and image that takes a chuck of the wall, produces a large image, and isn’t uncomfortably high.
Even without the Firestick, it is possible to control the Aurora Pro with Alexa, which is nice. Sometimes it seems inconsistent but I’m not sure if that's the device, the app, or classic Alexa quirkiness. I’m leaning toward classic Alexa quirkiness.
I am happy with the sound quality, and I haven’t felt a need to set it on full. It’s worth noting that when there isn’t any sound playing, there is a low hum from the fan. It is easy to tune out, but it is a noise that a standard TV would not have.
Overall, I am pleased with this projector. I don’t think it’s the right option for everyone. I’ve never seen a projector that didn’t have some shortcomings versus a high-quality TV, but it is awfully fun looking at the massive image this produces.
Bright, good when viewing at daytime. Better than Optoma
If you have a nice clean wall and want to invest in a screen to make it even better give this projector a try.
This took a lot of time and effort I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily plug and play but if you have the patience it’s definitely worth it!
The Projector is very easy to setup and use. There's a single power cord that needs to be plugged in and that's it for cords, unless you want to plug in your gaming console or sound system. The hardest part of setting up this projector, was finding a decent place to put it. The Projector is humongous, it's a lot bigger than I thought it would be. The size of the projector is 21.54 wide x 16.04 length x 4.81 inches tall, and it is 22lbs. So just be prepared to have a spot prepared for it, if you're switching from a TV to a projector. The projector has WIFI 6 and its own 60W speakers that sounds great and can get very loud!
Pros:
-Easy to setup and semi portable (can host a backyard movie as long as you have a projection screen and stand for it).
-It's better than my 4k TV
-Can go from 80-150" projection depending on distance from projection screen.
-The picture quality is outstanding!
-Built in 60W Speakers (that's very loud!).
-Can be used on a flat wall and would still look amazing!
-Has HDR10 and Dolby Vision
-Fan noise isn't noticeable at all with 25% sound volume.
Cons:
-The projector itself is huge!
-An LG OLED may have better picture quality, but you're sacrificing size.
Summary:
Overall, it's a very great projector that beats my 4k Samsung TV. If you're looking for an amazing projector that can rival a 4k TV, this is it. It easily projects a 80"-150" image and without requiring too much distance from the wall. Although be prepared to have the space for it, if you're switching from a TV to this.
This UST projector is definitely worth its name on the list of good projectors at this price range. First off this is a pretty large laser projector unit, so be prepared to have a large and sturdy place for it. It can projector up to 150inches depending on the distance from the wall. It needs to be able 1.5ft away for it to get up to 150inches. Regardless of the size of the image, its very very clear. If you want to get the full theater experience then investing in a high quality screen is recommended. I have tested this on a plain wall and the picture quality surpassed my expectations. Sound is also pretty good for a built in unit. Hooking it up to a surround sound system would complete the home theater. There is one small little thing that bugs me which is the unevenness at the top of the screen. There is fairly noticeable curve at the top right corner to the top middle and it bothers me quite a bit especially when on the main menu. When a movie is playing its not noticeable though. Remote is very responsive without much delays. The remote has air mouse built in which let you use Netflix on it. It has a fairly strong bright light which the projector works pretty good even when indirect lights on. I like that it has a built in sensor to detect motion nearby the projector to prevent accidental laser light into the eye. Overall its a very good projector in this price range compared to others.
Best purchase for the whole family in years! Easy set up and fine tuning. WII sports is a blast to play, as well as that real movie theater experience. Awesome sound quality and loud. We went with 150 inch screen, and love it. Seats are 15ft away.
Used for my home theater. Image quality is much better than other projectors that I have seen.
I Just got this today, We just finished renovating our house, and we don't have the proper screen for this type of projector. placing it on one of our cabinets in the meantime, doesnt do it justice, but this will do until we figure out where it's permanent place will be. I had it out of the box and up and running in 3 minutes. I'm sure getting the focus right on the screen will take a little time, using my phones camera doesn't do this projector any justice. since the wall isn't even close to the proper screen needed to display the full resolution, or even allow me to focus the image. The internal sound system is clear and crisp but lacks the deep bass an external subwoofer would provide. Included in the box is a Amazon 4k Firestick, but that's not the your only option for online streaming. The built in app store has plenty of downloads available for the projector, without the Firestick through the built in wifi. As with most projectors, laser or not you still need a very dark room, so the Backlit remote was a really nice touch as well.
However, my only complaint is the focus on the screen borders. While the center of the image is crisp and clear, the edges tend to be slightly out of focus. This isn't a major issue for me, but it might be noticeable if you need consistent clarity across the entire screen.
Despite this minor flaw, I still think the Aurora Pro is a fantastic projector for the price. It offers great value with its high-quality image and ease of use. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and affordable projector.
The quality is great even against the wall they had homes and not smooth!
I've had a projector since 2006 - first an epson 720, then a panasonic AE3000 1080, which unfortunately blew up a couple of years ago. Bought a cheap £160 one off amazon to keep me going until I could save up for a 4k projector. What I found is that there is always a compromise in a projector - you get a huge screen but comes at the expense of colour / brightness or focus etc. The Panasonic was lovely, but had quite a soft image, whereas I prefer a sharper image. Did a ton of research over the last year and ended up with the Formovie - mainly as I have a completely dark cinema with no windows so although not the brightest, it's perfect for a dark room. Also, I wanted a UST to better suit the layout of the room. Initially I projected onto a painted white wall and can honestly say it looked absolutely stunning. Anyone saying you "need" an ALR screen is simply wrong, you don't. It may be better, but the wall projection is perfectly acceptable. (I did end up getting a Duronic 120" screen more for aesthetic reasons than necessity). In my living room I have a 55" sony oled, and honestly, the picture from the Formovie is comparible. I'm no expert but it is genuinely stunning. Sharpness is incredible, colour is nicely saturated. Brightness is perfect. Setup is easy, simply plug it in, and line up the image. The sound from the unit is good, but I already have a 7.1 / 5.1.2 atmos setup through an Onkyo home cinema receiver. I was worried about the dreaded "rainbow effect" but thankfully it is absolutely minimal - sometimes can be seen when I walk out the room and I am moving across the picture, but when I am sat watching, it is not an issue and I am very susceptible to seeing it. Sound levels are much lower than my old Panny, which was incredibly loud and the fact is is now 4.5 m away from us means you barely hear the fan noise at all and I am running in brightest mode, you can minimise the fan noise even more by using normal, or eco modes. I think my only gripe is the remote is a bit unresponsive, you have to point it direct to the unit and even then, it doesn't always register a button press. All in all, a great bit of kit 10/10.
Easy to setup, for a surprise it came with 4k fire tv stick. I felt the picture clarity is better than a 4k TV. If Fire tv stick was not there, then it doesn't come with any HDMI cable. Inbuilt speaker has good sound and gets very loud for a room, bass is not that great but still, sound that loud and no distortion is great.
Projector screen - well i used manual pull down but with UST loose screen effect pops up for a surprise as with regular one, nothing shows up. So, either use a wall or have a good fixed projector screen.
this projector is fully loaded and amazing. has safety features i didn’t know existed and the quality of build is great. nice remote with lights on it. the speakers are also surprisingly amazing for being built in, way better than any tv speaker. this is built to last with 2 intake fans and 2 exhaust fans. this is really important bc heat is usually what hurts projectors long term. even with 4 fairly decent size fans it is really quiet, like you cannot hear them. this is a true movie theatre system for the home.
Even the built in Bowers and Wilkins speakers sound fantastic and better than my Vizio sound bar.
I'm totally happy with this purchase and would recommend the formovie theater to anyone.
I picked this location because the wall is decently empty and there's a piece of furniture I can use for the projector. It's a good test as it's far from an ideal location.
So - unpacking. It's impossible to miss anything. It's all placed so everything is obvious. Nothing is tucked in little niches in the foam that you don't realize were there until it's too late. Setup takes about an hour. Why so long? Well, there's a 1 gig update to download. We have fiber internet and it still took almost 30 minutes over WiFi - our home network is WiFi 5, not 6. Running a network cable to the projector is not practical, so I'll eventually upgrade the WiFi.
The update install itself took around 5 minutes. The next part is setup - and the instructions kind of skip this. Fortunately, it's really common sense. Go to the options and pick video. Then it's time to adjust. I used 8 point pincushion because the wall is so wavy. I was able to compensate for most of the wall distortions.
Then I downloaded the apps for my streaming services - Crunchyroll, Netflix and Prime video. Crunchy and Prime worked great. The Netflix app was totally bugged - none of the remote inputs worked. The projector includes a 4K Fire TV stick, so you can also use that for your apps.
Video looks good with the lights on, but absolutely amazing with the lights out. Just like a giant TV. I thought I'd try gaming from my laptop. I had to turn off the laptop screen to eliminate lagging (fault of the laptop, not the projector.) I could not get it to go past 60 hz - my gaming laptop is over 160 hz. Then I realized that INPUT accepted is up to 120 hz. Output is 60.
Audio is decent. Not spectacular, but far better than I expected - there's no EQ, so it sounds a bit shallow. There's also not much separation between channels. This setup just begs for a Stonehenge speaker system. The built-in soundbar make this a sweet portable unit - so save that box. The fans are not too bad, like a room fan on low.
The projection size is relative to distance from the wall. I have it 7.5" from the wall and 23 inches off the floor. The resulting image is 84" wide and 37" tall (approximates.) The image starts 20 inches above the projector, so 43 inches off the floor. The further back the projector is from the wall, the larger the image. For the largest image the provector speakers will be around three feet away from the wall. You may want to hang it from the ceiling or pick up a deep piece of furniture to people or pets don't try and squeeze through the gap between the screen and wall.
Finally the remote - it's motion sensitive so when it's picked up all the buttons backlight. It's IR and needs a direct line-of-sight. I found it to be a bit finicky at times unless it was pointed directly at the center of the projector.
The IDEAL theater based on this would have a surround sound speaker system, ALR (Ambient light rejecting) screen and a popcorn machine. I'm going to move my 9.2 sound system to the final room this winds up in.
Gaming. Wow. It takes some getting used to. When the alien Cronenberg-esq monstrosities jump out at you, they REALLY jump out at you. I'm seriously thinking about giving Dead Space another playthrough with this setup. Latency is a measly 12 ms. It accepts 120hz input - also amazing. This will give you a life-sized, 4K super gaming screen!
Overall it's an incredible system and supports front and rear screen projection. It has a plethora of amazing features.
Although you don’t need to use a dongle or your internet provider’s TV box (Xfinity gives you one at no cost with some internet packages) to download Apps or watch various types of content, it will need a separate access to watch Netflix.
Pro:
- Extremely great video
- Includes all the latest video features (4k, 120hz, 24p, Dolby Vision, etc)
- Includes all the latest audio options
- Includes an ethernet connection, great for streaming 4k
- Easy to make slight physical adjustments with the easy to use feet on both sides and you don't have to lift the project to change the height
- Easy to use settings menu to use any and all features and settings you can think of
- Variable Refresh Rate (beta when you upgrade the firmware)
- Low latency mode
- Looks great on a simple gray painted wall (builders paint, nothing fancy)
The list just keeps going. Everyone who has come over during the day or night, thought I had an actual tv on the wall because the people is so clear and bright. Once they figured out it wasn't an actual tv, they started to look for the projector and are blown away by the size of the screen with it only being a few inches from the wall.
Con:
- Upgrading the firmware through the internet on the device never works
- Finding the firmware on the website is hit for miss -- It was there one day, I favorited the site, went the next day, and the firmware was removed. Luckily I downloaded a copy the day prior. I'm not sure where the firmware went or if it was removed for "reasons". The upgrade though, after I found the firmware, was quite painless, and added a bunch of new features like VRR. Definitely upgrade the firmware if you can
- I can never go back to a normal TV
Highly highly recommend this projector. Even if you are going to throw the image on just a painted wall in the interim... it looks great and has changed my viewing experience.
The main thing to keep in mind is the "120hz" claims are a bit misleading. This ACCEPTS 120hz input, but it doesn't output 120hz. This is a good thing, but outputting 4k 120hz from a projector like this is currently impossible.
The software of this projector is good too. It is basically an android tv. I personally like how the inputs have preset labels. Makes switching between devices that much easier.
The built in sound is alright, but I mostly tested it with my actual Dolby Atmos sound system. Of course, it works flawlessly with that.
Overall, this is a very thoughtfully designed device. Even the controller is great since it is backlit. I absolutely love this thing.
The price hurts the eyes but it is a high-end product that is well worth
it It is quite heavy and quite bulky, allow space only the sides for ventilation
This Formovie is a total game changer. We have ours set up in our game room and watched football during Thanksgiving day. It has amazing picture quality and can be used in the daytime / daylight with the lights on. Sound quality was on point too. The 4K laser projector included a Fire Stick which is a great add-on feature. It was very easy to set up and is easy to use. The projector itself is a larger unit so ensure you have space to place it. This is an excellent, quality 4K laser projector - very versatile and easy to use.
Cons: The built in apps and stuff are trash, use your own stick. Set up with screen and instructions to mount it aren't great. No keystone with gaming mode
I would suggest getting it in the bundle with the ALR screen.
The projector works fantastic in terms of picture quality, vibrant colors and in built audio.
The performance on the wall was poor but excellent over ALR SCREEN.
I used first on wall but then moved to silver ticket grey screen of 128”
When compared to other USTs is bit less brighter . However if you consider only watching movies in dark room doesn’t matter. Overall good value for Dolby Vision
Whether for a cozy movie night or gaming, this projector delivers an amazing experience.
I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to upgrade their home entertainment setup!
